Classroom Vision
Classroom GoalsGoals that every student will be working toward include growing an equivalent of 1.5 years in Reading levels. This progress is tracked for each student on his/her individual TREEmendous Growth tree.
A behavior goal everyone is working toward is showing the classroom rules at all times. The three rules include, respecting yourself, respecting others, and respecting our classroom. This is monitored through the behavior clip chart, and students have both individual and class daily behavior trackers in which they are working toward incentives to help celebrate positive behavior. Another class goal includes bringing in your homework each day. Students are all members of the homework club, and at the end of each marking period, those who remain in the homework club partake in a class celebration. In addition to these class-wide goals, students are working on understanding their areas in which they individually need to grow, and set unique behavior and academic goals in those areas. |
The theme of my classroom is personal and academic growth. Students are actively involved in setting both behavior and academic goals for themselves, monitoring progress toward goals, and celebrating both individual and class growth. Students will be demonstrating personal growth through the school-wide Afro-centric principles of the MA'AT. In my classroom, a student is celebrated for showing these principles by putting a leaf with his/her name on it up on the class's MA'AT Principles Tree on the corresponding branch. Students will see how the tree goes from being bare to growing full of leaves as they show the principles. Students also each have individual reading growth trees, in which leaves are added when a student moves up a reading level or shows progress toward a Reading IEP goal. Students set goals for themselves and understand what they need to do individually to make growth toward their goals. Our classes are very small, so everyone is encouraged to support one another as we follow the three classroom rules of Respecting ourselves, Respecting Others, and Respecting our classroom, so that everyone can learn and grow to their fullest potential.
